Starting from 8:31 p.m. on October 24, air traffic at Vilnius Airport was temporarily suspended. According to initial reports, the airspace restrictions were caused by meteorological balloons flying toward Vilnius Airport. The airspace over Vilnius Airport was reopened at 2:35 a.m.
Starting from 8:36 p.m. on October 24, air traffic at Kaunas Airport was also temporarily suspended. According to initial reports, the airspace restrictions were caused by meteorological balloons flying toward Kaunas Airport. The airspace over Kaunas Airport was reopened at 2:35 a.m.
Due to these temporary restrictions, both arriving and departing flights were affected — some were canceled. In total, 40 flights and more than 6,000 passengers were affected across both airports.
Overall: 10 flights canceled, 14 diverted, and 16 delayed at the two airports.

At Vilnius Airport, approximately 5,900 passengers and 37 flights were affected — 9 canceled, 12 diverted (2 of which were diverted to Palanga Airport, from where passengers were transported to Vilnius by bus), and 16 delayed.
Throughout the day, individual flight delays may still occur due to disrupted crew and aircraft rotations.
Passengers whose flights were canceled are advised not to go to the airport and to contact their airlines directly for alternative travel options and further information. Airlines are required to provide passengers with all necessary information regarding next steps and available flight alternatives.
