According to initial reports, the airspace restrictions were caused by <strong data-end=\"378\" data-start=\"321\">meteorological balloons flying toward Vilnius Airport<\/strong>. The airspace over Vilnius Airport was reopened at <strong data-end=\"443\" data-start=\"430\">2:35 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-end=\"749\" data-start=\"447\">Starting from <strong data-end=\"488\" data-start=\"461\">8:36 p.m. on October 24<\/strong>, air traffic at <strong data-end=\"523\" data-start=\"505\">Kaunas Airport<\/strong> was also temporarily suspended. According to initial reports, the airspace restrictions were caused by <strong data-end=\"683\" data-start=\"627\">meteorological balloons flying toward Kaunas Airport<\/strong>. The airspace over Kaunas Airport was reopened at <strong data-end=\"747\" data-start=\"734\">2:35 a.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1042\" data-start=\"751\">Due to these temporary restrictions, both <strong data-end=\"827\" data-start=\"793\">arriving and departing flights<\/strong> were affected \u2014 some were canceled. In total, <strong data-end=\"919\" data-start=\"874\">40 flights and more than 6,000 passengers<\/strong> were affected across both airports.<br data-end=\"958\" data-start=\"955\" \/><br \/>\nOverall: <strong data-end=\"1019\" data-start=\"967\">10 flights canceled, 14 diverted, and 16 delayed<\/strong> at the two airports.<\/p>\n<ul data-end=\"1417\" data-start=\"1044\">\n<li data-end=\"1158\" data-start=\"1044\">\n<p data-end=\"1158\" data-start=\"1046\">At <strong data-end=\"1067\" data-start=\"1049\">Kaunas Airport<\/strong>, <strong data-end=\"1087\" data-start=\"1069\">510 passengers<\/strong> and <strong data-end=\"1105\" data-start=\"1092\">3 flights<\/strong> were affected \u2014 <strong data-end=\"1136\" data-start=\"1122\">2 diverted<\/strong> and <strong data-end=\"1155\" data-start=\"1141\">1 canceled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"1417\" data-start=\"1159\">\n<p data-end=\"1417\" data-start=\"1161\">At <strong data-end=\"1183\" data-start=\"1164\">Vilnius Airport<\/strong>, approximately <strong data-end=\"1219\" data-start=\"1199\">5,900 passengers<\/strong> and <strong data-end=\"1238\" data-start=\"1224\">37 flights<\/strong> were affected \u2014 <strong data-end=\"1269\" data-start=\"1255\">9 canceled<\/strong>, <strong data-end=\"1286\" data-start=\"1271\">12 diverted<\/strong> (2 of which were diverted to <strong data-end=\"1335\" data-start=\"1316\">Palanga Airport<\/strong>, from where passengers were transported to Vilnius by bus), and <strong data-end=\"1414\" data-start=\"1400\">16 delayed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-end=\"1535\" data-start=\"1419\">Throughout the day, <strong data-end=\"1467\" data-start=\"1439\">individual flight delays<\/strong> may still occur due to disrupted <strong data-end=\"1532\" data-start=\"1501\">crew and aircraft rotations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1850\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" data-start=\"1537\">Passengers whose flights were canceled are <strong data-end=\"1616\" data-start=\"1580\">advised not to go to the airport<\/strong> and to <strong data-end=\"1659\" data-start=\"1624\">contact their airlines directly<\/strong> for <strong data-end=\"1694\" data-start=\"1664\">alternative travel options<\/strong> and further information.
